Spandana Battula

Spandana’s musical journey began at the tender age of six. She earned her Visharad degree under the guidance of Pt. P. Ramachandra at the Geetam Institute, affiliated with the esteemed Akhil Bharatiya Gandharv Mahavidhyalay. Trained in the Gwalior gharana, her musical lineage boasts luminaries such as Pt. Damodar Hota (Swar Rang), Padmashree Pt. Balwant Rai Bhatt (Bhav Rang), and Pt. Omkarnath Thakur (Pranav Rang).

She furthered her musical education with Pt. Arup Lal Ghosh before relocating to Seattle, WA. In Seattle, she delved into the Khayal style with Guru Srivani Jade of the Kirana gharana and continues her learning journey with Moumita Mitra, an A-Grade artist in Khayal from All India Radio and a First-Class M.A. in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music from Rabindra Bharati University.

Spandana has graced stages with her performances in classical, semi-classical, and light music genres, captivating audiences across the greater Pacific Northwest and India. Her notable appearances include SVETA LV Temple Redmond 2024, Ragamala Lights 2021, KHMC Boston 2021, and TANA 2012. Her talent has been recognized with numerous awards, such as First Runner-Up in Raga Sadhana organized by Ragamala and the Women’s Excellence Award by SWECHA.

Spandana’s philosophy in classical music is deeply inspirational. She believes that music is a divine art form that transcends mere performance. It requires unwavering discipline and lifelong dedication. She encourages everyone to maintain their sadhana, as it is through persistent practice that one can experience a profound connection with their soul and the divine.

Spandana’s teaching philosophy is refreshingly light-hearted. She strives to instill a deep appreciation and reverence for this art form in her students, while ensuring that learning remains enjoyable and accessible, especially for young children. Her approach balances discipline with fun, making the journey of mastering music both enriching and delightful.
